Alex

Alex

Alex is a 15-year-old sophomore in the Denver Metro area. After multiple concussions, he was tested and found to be dyslexic and autistic at the age of 12. He started learning therapy at Children's, and it transformed his life. They introduced him to the YES! program and various learning devices to help in school. He is a YAC member (Youth Advisory Committee) for Children’s Hospital, helping with their Spring Prom and Teen Room. Alex has been with YES! for three years. This is Alex’s first year as a YES! Ambassador. He enjoys fishing, golfing, playing guitar, lego designing, and caring for his baby niece and baby cousin. Alex has many goals including learning to drive and working with Legos. He hopes that he can help others in the YES! program become better students and learn to advocate for themselves.

Arionna

Arionna

Arionna is 13 years old, 8th grader, at a public K-8 school. She was diagnosed dyslexic and gifted, in Math, in the 2nd grade. Her favorite subjects in school are math, science, and social studies. Arionna has worked hard to be an A student and is in National Junior Honor Society. She is a 360 leader, a mentorship program that helps sixth graders transition to middle school. Arionna has been sharing information about her dyslexia with teachers and classmates since the 3rd grade. She was a YES! Member for 5 years and continues to look forward to mentoring more students as a YES! Ambassador.

Christine

Christine

Christine is 15 and was diagnosed with dyslexia more than eight years ago. She has trouble with reading, spelling, writing, and much more. After all of her years of hard work, she has discovered that listening to audiobooks will always give her better comprehension. She has also learned to compensate for all this by sticking with sports and other activities that are important to her. She is a passionate skier, runner, soccer player, artist, and synchronized swimmer. She loves these activities because they are things that she naturally excels at which make her feel better about herself.

Emma

Emma

Emma is a Senior in high school. She is an accomplished swimmer and dancer, as well as an avid singer, performer and artist. She is a member of the National Honor Society and her high school Thespian Troop. She enjoys performing in community and school theater productions in addition to her latest passion working in film. Emma loves science. She was awarded the 2015 1st Place Overall Winner in her high school science fair and the 2015 Blue Stamp Engineering Award at the Regional Science Fair. Her future aspirations include becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist working in the field of pediatrics while continuing to foster her passion for the arts. One of her favorite quotes is “Your value does not decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth” – author unknown. Emma strives to help other students find their voice in advocating for themselves.

Eva

Eva

Eva is a 13-year-old and an 8th grader at a public middle school. She was found to be twice exceptional in the 3rd grade. Her favorite subjects are drama, science and language arts. She finished her 7th grade year as a honor roll student and is working to have straight A’s in 8th grade. Eva loves performing arts and competitive swimming. She is a junior lifeguard at a local water park. She has been in the Yes! program for 4 years and is very excited to start her first year as an ambassador.

Gabby

Gabby

Gabby is thirteen years old and a eighth-grader at her charter school. She was diagnosed with dysgraphia in 3rd grade and dyslexia in 5th grade. She has trouble with spelling, and working/reading quickly. Gabby excels at math and has strong narrative and visual thinking skills. Her favorite accommodations are using her computer to type her homework and ear-reading. She enjoys directing mini-movies and riding her bike… and of course, reading. She’s excited about helping others.

Hannah

Hannah

Hannah is 16 years old and a junior in a hybrid online/brick-and-mortar public school. Hannah is both dyslexic and gifted. She loves writing stories and has published one of her books. She hopes to convert future books and ideas into screenplays and direct them in movies. Her dyslexia makes it challenging to put the stories to paper, but through hard work and perseverance, she has been able to fill at least 20 journals of ideas and stories. This is Hannah’s Fifth year as a YES! Ambassador. Hannah loves speaking at presentations and events and hanging out with her YES! members. One of her goals is to help her YES! members and other dyslexic students see that dyslexia can be something to celebrate.

Jack

Jack

Jack is 16 years old and a junior at a charter school. He attends concurrent enrollment classes at a community college, and participates in the Colorado CareerWise program as a computer technician apprentice. He is an avid outdoorsman, mountain biker, and skier, and has a passion for all things technology. Jack is working to graduate from high school with as many computer certifications as possible, and to achieve his lifelong dream to get a degree in IT so that he may start a business and be a tech entrepreneur. This is his third year as a YES! Ambassador, after spending 4 years in the program and advocating for himself for many years before YES! He is enthusiastic about mentoring others and sharing his story as a YES! Ambassador.

John

John

John is 16 years old and a junior in a public high school. John is a dedicated student and loves learning. Through hard work and dedication, John has always been an honor roll student. He is able to comprehend in reading above grade level, although he still struggles with fluency and decoding. His favorite subjects are history and science. John hopes to one day use his love of science to have a career in marine biology. John enjoys exploring nature, animals, reading, and spending time with family and friends. John loves working with the YES! program because he wants to encourage others to see how dyslexia can be a positive part of their lives.

Luke

Luke

Luke is a sophomore at his public High School and is very dedicated to learning and passionate about theater and golf. Luke also spends a lot of time in the mountains especially now since he joined the Breckenridge all mountain snowboard team. His future plans consist of joining his high school's varsity golf team and going to college for engineering, maybe getting a few acting roles along the way. Luke is excited for the next year.

Parker

Parker

Parker is a 17 year old and he attends a public school. He is very involved in soccer, and loves spending time with friends in the outdoors. He is a strong public speaker and is always willing to help. He likes to think that he is very lucky to have dyslexia because it makes him more creative than his peers. He always works 100%, and he won’t leave tasks unfinished. He loves to work with kids with dyslexia because the change that you can see is the most rewarding thing in the world to him. He loves helping family and sharing his story with everyone he can.

Shannah

Samantha

Samantha is seventeen years old and a senior at her public school. She was diagnosed in the fourth grade, both dyslexic and gifted. She currently has trouble spelling, and working/reading quickly. Her strengths are math, and creative ideas. Samantha’s favorite accommodation is using her electronics, including her iPad, because of all the software and apps that are available to help her. She enjoys snow skiing, biking, hanging out with friends and family, and playing with her dog, Belle. Samantha is a proud YES! Ambassador, going onto her seventh year. She loves helping whenever she can.

Shannah

Shannah

Shannah is a proud YES! Ambassador. She is 17 years old and in the eleventh grade at a public school in Colorado. Shannah has achieved High Honors at her high school, with a GPA of a 4.0. She loves helping others understand their dyslexia and teaching them new ways to understand how to utilize their strategies while they grow into being strong self-advocates. Shannah is a member of a local youth theater company where she acts, sings and performs in musicals. She is an award winning photographer and currently has her photos in a gallery. She also loves spending quality time with her family and friends.

Sierra

Sierra

Sierra is a freshman in high school. She enjoys tennis, volleyball, and swimming. In school this year she received an award for excellence in science and has been accepted into a STEM program at a public high school. Sierra hopes to pursue engineering as a career. After attending YES! events and being a member for the past 4 years, Sierra is excited to begin her journey as a YES! Ambassador. Through her YES! journey Sierra has learned to speak up and ask her teachers for help. YES! has helped Sierra get over her fear of public speaking. Sierra is very excited to be a new YES! Ambassador this year.
